How to replace griptape

skateboard with crummy griptape Stephen wrote me

I am new at skateboarding, and I made the mistake of lending my Birdhouse to one of my friends!!! He ruined the grip tape totally, and I need to get some new griptape. It would be most appreciated if you could tell me how to replace the old griptape! Jon

Well Stephen not only are I'm going to tell, I have freakin visual aids. Just follow these stepZ...~

Step one:
Grab that old crusty board and find yourself a working space.
skateboard tools you need
Step two:
Grab your tool, you will need a razor blade (grab someone older if you need help for this part) and a hair dryer we used the ConAir 1600 SuperMax.
skateboard grip tape heat it up
Step three:
Once you have everything start by heating the griptape up. This causes the glue loose its grip on the board. This can take a while but its makes the rest of the process much easier.
skateboard peal the grip tape
Step four:
Use the razor to peal back the grip tape an inch or so in a very even way. Try to avoid having the grip tape rip, being as it is much easier to take it off in one piece.
skateboard griptape Heat and peel-
Step five:
Heat and peel- heat and peel- heat and peel- heat and peel- heat and peel

skateboard peal the grip tape Step six:
after you get four to six inches in, plant your foot and pull slowly. Then just clean up the rest of the little pieces you missed and you have a naked board.

How to apply griptape to a skateboard

skateboard griptape tools

skateboard grip tape peel it
Step three:
peel the tape from its backing
press the griptape
Step four:
starting in the center of the skateboard press the griptape down.
push the air bubble out of the tape
Step five:
After all the tape is down, use a skateboard wheel (or your thumb will work) to make sure all of the air bubbles are out.
edging griptape
Step six:
Use the screwdriver to rub a nice little edge along the skateboard.
cut the griptape
Step seven:
Use the blade to cut the griptape along the line you made with the screwdriver.

skateboard griptape finish up Step eight:

You need to get the old bearing out so use the axel of the (or a screwdriver) to pop the bearing out of the wheel.

The bearing should pop out like so.
